Matthew Kelvie and Kenneth Powell, the founders of The Private Practice course have in excess of 40 years of combined experience working within the private sector, in senior positions within Insurers, Medical Brokers, Private Hospitals, Occupational Health Providers and Medical Website and Digital Inbound Marketing Agencies.
Matthew was the Sales & Marketing Director at Classic Hospitals. Classic Hospitals was formed following the acquisition of 11 private hospitals from BUPA at a time when they ran hospitals. It was sold back to the same management team at Spire 3 years later at a significant profit (in excess of £80m) which was possible due to the increased occupancy levels and profitability achieved during this time
In recent years, Matthew founded Health Assured which is now the largest Employee Assistance and Occupational Health company in the UK, supporting in excess of 9.5m employees. He has also founded Medex Protect Limited, a specialist Medical Excess and Shortfall Insurer, which was sold in October 2017 to Health Shield Friendly Society, after securing more than 3,500 corporate clients in the 3 years and 11 months that it traded prior to the sale.
Matthew is currently the Commercial Director (on a consultancy basis) for One Healthcare Partners Limited, who operate 2 private facilities (Ashford, Kent and Hatfield, Hertfordshire) and has recently finished his self help book, entitled “Willpower Wins” Mastering your Mind set which is due for publication shortly.
Kenneth is known to many Consultants in the UK and is the Managing Director and chief strategist at Blackbox Ecom Limited, a specialist provider of Web and marketing services specifically designed to meet the needs of the medical industry, including, Consultants, Groups, Clinics, Hospital, Medical Societies and Medical Device companies. His current client list is literally a who’s who of the most successful and renowned Consultants in the UK – many of whom have been clients since they first qualified and moved in to private practice
In the early 1990’s Kenneth was the European Head of Advertising for a Global multi-billion pound Japanese Corporate company, and was instrumental in developing their strategy which supported their successful expansion in to European markets. Whilst entertaining clients at the Monte Carlo Grand Prix, he had an epiphany and decided in the very instant to plough his own furrow so to speak, and utilise the experience gained within this “corporate” role, to step outside of the restrictive confines of this “beast” and run his own specialist agency designed solely to support the sales and marketing needs of the medical industry, offering a personable and bespoke service.
